Samobor cream puffs is protected

Favorite Samobor dessert  Samobor cream puffs  (Samoborska kremšnita ) is now legally protected as an autochthonous Samobor or Croatian brand. According to the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Media, the traditional dessert has received the status of an intangible cultural property and will be entered in the Register of Protected Cultural Property of the Republic of Croatia.

this dessert made of puff pastry and beaten egg cream is known under various names and variants in the area of ​​Central European and Mediterranean countries, and one of the most famous in Croatia is Samobor.

The original recipe was created around 1920 by confectioner Đuro Lukačić.He prepared Samobor cream puffs until 1966, after which he helped make them.
Two confectioners, Višnja Vukmanović and Branka Žganjer, transferred the original recipe and knowledge to Kavana Livadić and the pastry shop U prolazu, which are also holders of intangible cultural property.  The tradition of making Samobor cream puffs (Samoborska kremšnita) is cherished in these patisseries to this day, so this foamy dessert is enjoyed by many visitors, guests, tourists, excursionists and mountaineers.


Kremšnita in Samobor has a special status. One of the symbols is the first association with the city, both in Croatia and abroad. That is why she is often called the "Queen of all cakes". It is a dessert that makes everyone always happy to come to Samobor.  It’s almost unthinkable for someone to visit that little town and not try the fine light yellowish cream between the crispy puff pastry. Because of her, waiting is fine. It is taken home as a souvenir from Samobor, even if it has cooled down on the way. There are several recipes for this cake, but Samobor cream cheese is unique because of its preparation. But we must not forget the Samobor ambience, which should be enjoyed.
